DIY Halloween Craft Idea

I'm not much of a seasonal decorator. I find that although we moved into a house, we just don't have the space {and honestly, the funds} to change up our decor based on the holiday or season... however, that doesn't mean that I don't like to spruce things up a bit if I can find easy-DIY tutorials for craft projects that are either cheap enough to toss when the season/holiday ends... or it's small enough and easy to store.

I came across these three simple BOO-tastic DIY projects via Better Homes and Gardens and thought I would share with you all, just in case your mentality is like mine when it comes to seasonal decorating.

This craft is quite easy, only needing a foam cone, black and pink {or any color of your choice} silk flowers, and a piece of cardboard for the brim. For full instructions, head over to Better Homes and Gardens.

Another super easy DIY craft. You'll need a couple of picture frames, black card stock, the free printables found on Better Homes and Gardens, a printer and some sharp scissors.

This one might be the easiest of the three. Pick up some standard pillar candles and hot glue beads, pearls, rhinestones or beans into the shapes of the letters, then stack on candlesticks of varying heights. Voila - you've got yourself some BOO-rific candles!

5 Fall Soup Recipes

I know, I know - it has seriously been AGES since I've blogged anything. Let me give you a brief rundown of what's been going on in my life {and I mean brief... who wants to read about my life when there's parties, recipes, fall design and many other more fun things to capacitate your brain with?!}. So, the day after Labor Day I started a new full-time job with an advertising/marketing agency that's based her in Minneapolis {previously I was working for the fuel industry doing market analysis and data input}. With this new job, my regular hours have changed and I'm still getting adjusted with all of this extra training that's consuming my brain! But don't you worry - fall and winter are coming and I'm more than ready to jump back on the blogging-train... as well as get all the ducks in a row to fully get Cammi Lee Events up and running. I'm hoping to launch my new blog and web site before the end of the year... and roll out a new brand, too! I've got a couple of 2012 weddings on the books. So that's an update!

So... on to the good stuff! The official start of fall was last Friday, and besides yesterday and today, the weather has been less than stellar! And when the weather gets chilly... I like to make soup! So here are my top 5 soups to try for fall {side note: I haven't tried all of these recipes... but they're on my radar!} Click on the name of the soup below the photo to get the recipe!

Wedding Wednesday: Sweet Summer Love

Today's Wedding Wednesday post comes from the talented lauren b photography, whose work you may remember from a couple of weeks ago with the Merry'd Session.

When Laurie sent over this wedding, we were instantly in love with all the little details that came together for a perfect summer wedding. We love the choice of flowers, the colors, the ice cream bar, the outdoor ceremony, the decor - it just all meshed well for an awesome wedding full of gorgeous summerness!

The couple, Matt and Brier, began dating in high school and continued their relationship through their college careers at different universities. Their wedding was held in Wisconsin at the Mystical Rose Gardens, on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. The bright summer colors and DIY decor (mostly by the brides mother) totally tied together this gorgeous outdoor wedding.

Wasn't this one of the cutest summer weddings you've seen? We adore all the DIY details and bright colors used throughout the space! Just beautiful!

Featured Vendor: Melissa Oholendt Photography

This weeks featured vendor comes again from a photography company whose work we featured in Wednesday's "Wedding Wednesday" series. If you didn't already check out that post, you must! I'm still grinning over the super cute story of the couple met! Plus, the photos Melissa took for the couples engagement session are AWE-SOME... we love the contrasting locations!

Anyway, I wanted to give you, my lovely readers, an inside look at the woman {Melissa} behind the camera at Melissa Oholendt Photography! I'm willing to bet you'll love her - she sounds way too fun! So, without further adieu, meet Melissa!

How did you get started in photography?
As not-magical as it sounds, I kind of fell into photography. I grew up with cameras all around but never really got into photography until a trip to Washington DC with my dads old Nikon film SLR camera completely rocked my world. After that, I took every photography class I could take and read every business book I could get my hands on.

When did you realize you could turn your passion into a profitable business? When was Melissa Oholendt Photography founded?
After feeding my photography education monster, I was asked by a friend in early 2009 if I would photographing her family and I remember driving home from that - my very first session - out of my MIND excited about what had just transpired. That next week I made everything official and the original Melissa Oholendt Photography blog was born shortly thereafter. For just over a year I assisted a well-known local photography studio and learned so much about running a successful and creatively thriving business as well as staying true to who I was. Getting my business running and shooting my own weddings while also being mentored by an enormously talented photographer was one of the best experiences I could have afforded and truly was my trial-by-fire moment.

What is your favorite event to photograph?
Weddings. Hands down. There's so much joy and anticipation in the day and I've been blessed with the most amazing clients who I enjoy spending time with and am genuinely thrilled for.

What inspires you and your work?
Fashion! Art! Music! Sparkly things!

What do you love most about your job?
Oh goodness, my clients. I LOVE photography, but the reality is that my clients make all the hard work of running a business and photographing weddings worth it. I want to give them my very best, always.

What is one thing you wish ever client knew/did that would make your job easier in assisting them?
I feel like a little PSA announcement, but this has become so apparent as of late. Wedding coordinators are worth every penny; having someone who is on your side (!!!!) to eliminate the stress of coordinating with vendors and to plan and execute those amazing little details that become overwhelming during that last few months? Priceless.

What is your ultimate goal/dream for your business or professional life?
Honestly, I'd love to shoot a fashion lifestyle shoot for J.Crew. And beg Jenna Lyons to be my mentor. My love for weddings is deep, by my love for Jenna Lyons and sequin harlem pants is a close second.

If you weren't a photographer, what would your dream job be?
A J.Crew version of Rachel Zoe. {I just really like J.Crew, OK?}

What advice and/or tips would you give to people looking to start their own business adventure? What did you find helpful when starting out? What were the most difficult things to overcome?
1. Educate yourself.
2. Find a mentor.
3. Get your legal ducks in a row.
4. Be authentic and don't compare yourself with the competition.
5. Run head-on into the things you are most scared of.

The last one is a constant battle for me. But what I have learned is that if I am fearful of something, it usually means I need to push forward and face it head-on or else risk being bullied into being stagnant.

What are five things you simply can't live without?
The J.Crew Fall Collections. Authentic friendships. My no-no-bad-dog Gunnar. The smell of clean sheets. My amazing, amazing, amazing husband.

What is your favorite color scheme at the moment?
Monochromatic grays. Yum.

What is your favorite time of year to photograph?
Late summer! The golden sunsets; the beautiful, lush greenery; the photo dates leading to wine dates? Perfection.

What trends are you seeing in the photography industry lately?
The return of the classic romantic. {LOVE!} Modern patterns in bridesmaids dresses. {Really love}

Real Parties: Housewarming Brunch

My boyfriend and I moved into our house almost a year and a half ago and before we moved I was planning in my head the housewarming party we would host at our first home.... I imagined what the invites would look like, who we would invite, what kind of food and drinks we would serve and what kinds of things we would do for fun. Sadly, we moved in right in the beginning of wedding season, and almost every single weekend was consumed by bridal showers, bachelorette parties, weddings or something pre-planned with family or friends... and my housewarming party never happened.

Now, why am I tell you all of this about a housewarming party that I never planned? Well because I'm pretty envious of how fabulous this Housewarming Brunch, featured on Hostess With the Mostess, turned out. My housewarming party would have been nothing like this - we're not morning people at all... and we love to party it up at night - but the concept of this party is amazing! I love everything about it - from the food choices to the color scheme {which is very fitting for the theme}.

Seriously, how cute is this theme! The various brunch stations were super creative - a waffle station, a cereal bar, an egg and toast station and a mimosa bar. Real Couple: Romance and an Engagement Session

We are just in love with today's Wedding Wednesday feature from Melissa Oholendt Photography. The couple has one of the cutest stories I have ever heard for how they met - it's definitely romantic!

Alyssa and Matt first met at Nordstrom Rack in the Mall of America, where Alyssa worked. She helped him with his purchases, but both were too shy to express the interest they felt toward one another. {here comes the romantic part} Later, Matt put an ad out on Craigslist's Missed Connections, where one of Alyssa's friends came across the post and called her up letting her know she was fairly certain there was a post about her on the board. The two met for coffee and the rest, as they say, is history. {How awesome it is that romance isn't dead after all!} :)

How did you get started in photography?
I fell in love with it in the high school darkroom and it's been a part of me ever since. In college, I took classes, did independent studies, and worked for the on-campus photographer. After graduation, I met the wedding industry and it's grown from there.

When did you realize you could turn your passion into a profitable business? When was lauren b. photography founded?
lauren b. photography was started in 2007. I've since and will forever continue to learn about owning and running a business. I realized when working for a wedding photographer that this was a viable option, but it's a constant learning and growing process, and educators in the field have been a blessing.

What is your favorite event to photograph?
Hmmm... this is a tough one because it's the variety that I love most. Couple sessions are pretty high up there - Merry'd and Boudoir in particular. It's such a treat to bring out someone's beauty and uniqueness and I love sharing that experience with couples and clients.

What inspires your work?
Every day things: people watching, movies, books, seminars and workshops, and I'm sure many other things I'm not even aware of.

What do you love most about your job?
Getting that amazing image. And then showing it to the client. That's what makes the long days, computer hours and hard work worth it. I like working with people in a creative way and being able to provide them with vision and art that blends both of our styles.

What is one thing you wish every client knew/did that would make your job easier in assisting them?
"How Much?" is not the most important question. It's the one clients start with because they've likely never hired a photographer before and don't know what else to ask {It's what I would ask a florist or reception venue without knowing otherwise}. What is important? The quality of work, the longevity of their album {discs degrade, archival albums do not}, the photographers likability and temperament, and if your styles are a good fit.

What is your ultimate goal for your business or professional life?
My ultimate goal is to do weddings, destination weddings and theater photography all over. Basically keep doing what I'm doing but in a more intentional and adventurous capacity. And to continue learning and growing in an ever-changing industry.

If you weren't a photographer, what would your dream job be?
A photographers wife. Just kidding. Hmm, that's tough because in school I always knew what I didn't want to be, but not what I did - until I learned photography could be a career and not just a hobby. I suppose a therapist or psychologist would be the answer.

What advice and/or tips would you give to people looking to start their own business adventure? What did you find helpful when starting out? What were the most difficult things to overcome?
I recommend getting educated and learning as much as possible. Have a plan before jumping and talk to people who've done it before. I was not a business-savvy person starting a business, so I puttered along for a while. I think education and mentorship/internships are key because they'd solve/prevent a lot of other problems: smart marketing, customer service, necessary vs. frivolous equipment, etc.

What are five things you simply can't live without?
My family, my boyfriend, my best gal pals, the sun, desserts {I could have picked 5 desserts, but this covers more bases} :)

What is your favorite color scheme at the moment?
Bright yellow, green and white {at the moment}

What is your favorite time of year to photograph?
Autumn, and late summer nights

What trends are you seeing in the photography industry lately?
I think there's a return to quality over quantity - better images vs. more, artful vs. over-the-top, etc.

Real Party: Surfs Up Summer!

I'm a big fan of unique parties {I'm pretty sure I've used that line as an opener for a blog before... but it's just so true}, which is exactly why I simply adore this uber cute Surf's Up! Summer Party designed by Holly of Paisley Petal Events. The bright colors, the unique theme, the desserts and all the little details make this party so very swoon-worthy!

Holly designed this party with her 8-year old son in mind. Living in Utah, they don't have any beaches near them, so Holly was determined to bring the beach to her son and his friends to celebrate the end of the school year. With the help of her husband, she used four pieces of 8-foot plywood to create the surfboards that served as the background for the dessert table {this is my favorite part of the whole party}. To continue with the beachy theme, she used a simple white table cloth with blue netting laid on top - too cute! And the desserts - oh my! - they were too cute! I'm definitely loving the cupcakes with the fondant surfboards and others with the fondant shark fins, as well as the cookies shaped like sharks and surfboards.

So, now I'll stop my rambling about how awesome this party is and let you see for yourself...

Real Couple: Merry'd Session in the City

Today's Wedding Wednesday feature comes from Lauren B. Photoraphy and it's filled with sunlight and city backgrounds.

Laurie of Lauren B. Photography photographed this couples wedding two years ago, and followed it up with a Merry'd session in Northeast Minneapolis. I think Laurie captured the couples love for the arts (in fact, they're a very creative couple being a musician and artist) by finding "grungy and contrasting bright" locations. And seriously, who couldn't love that dress!

Dove and Kristin totallly rocked this Merry'd session. Recipe Love: BBQ Shredded Beefs {Crock Pot Style}

I don't normally post recipes that aren't drink or dessert related, but I just had to share this delicious recipe that I used to make Monday night's dinner {thank you Betty Crocker}. After tasting how yummy it turned out {both the night of and as leftovers}, I thought it would be a great recipe for a party... who doesn't love a set it and forget it recipe for a party?

So, first thing's first - Betty Crocker's recipe is super easy for a "set it and forget it" dinner - you simply place the ingredients in the crock pot, set it on low and head out for the day. I'm going to give you MY version of the recipe {as I changed a few things}, but you can head over to the Betty Crocker site to get her actual recipe to compare.

INGREDIENTS:

1 boneless beef rump roast (2 1/2 lbs)
1 3/4 cups barbecue sauce
3/4 cup root beer
Garlic Powder, Minced Onions, Pepper {I didn't really measure how much I used,
sorry!}
Hamburger buns, split

DIRECTIONS:

1. In a 3/12- to 4-quart slow cooker, place beef. Sprinkle garlic powder, minced onions and pepper over beef.
2. Mix 3/4-cup root beer with 1 1/4-cup barbecue sauce in a measuring cup or bowl. When combined, pour over beef.
3. Set slow cooker on low for 9 to 10 hours {depending on how fast your slow cooker tends to cook meals. Mine was on for about 9 hours}
4. Test doneness of meat by using two forks to pull a small chunk apart. If it shreds easily, remove meat from crock pot and set on plate.
5. Pour liquids into a 12-inch skillet. Let boil over medium-high heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, for liquid to thicken. Once boiled down, add 1/2 cup barbecue sauce.
6. Meanwhile, shred meat down and return to slow cooker. Pour liquid mixture over meat in crock pot, mix well. Let sit on low for another 15 minutes.
7. Serve over a hamburger bun.

** These turned out juicy and continue to be juicy once reheated. My only complaint would be lack of flavor - I think next time I'll try adding some real garlic... and maybe a little bit of horseradish to kick the flavor up a bit **

Sounds easy enough, huh? These are the perfect dish for an informal party {just think of your hubby's fantasy football draft party coming up, the start of college football season, Labor Day weekend, cabin weekends - seriously, this recipe is perfect for them all!}. Also, being able to make it ahead of time will save you some serious stress!

Real Couple: Vintage Romance

I am so excited to be sharing this couple's engagement session with you for this weeks Wedding Wednesday feature. Why is that you ask? Well, the couple of these gorgeous photos happen to be the first clients for Cammi Lee Events! Meet Molly and TJ!

I met Molly, the bride-to-be, soon after I graduated college when I started my first job for large festival-product event company. Molly was the graphic designer {who does phenomenal work - she is designing all of my branding and web site... which should be released by the end of September!} and I worked as a Marketing Coordinator, so we worked quite closely with one another. This girl is simply amazing - definitely one of the nicest girls I've ever met... and the drive and motivation she has to fulfill her dreams is certainly motivating!

Molly and TJ have such an adorable relationship - you can definitely tell they're so much in love with one another. While TJ made it known in the beginning that he wasn't super excited to be out taking engagement photos {I really can't imagine there are many guys who are ecstatic about this part of the wedding planning} he loosened up and their photographer, Andrew Saxum of A.T.S. Photography, did an awesome job capturing their personalities in their engagement photos.

As their wedding coordinator, I went out with Molly, TJ and TJ's younger sister for their e-session. The day was a little steamy and overcast, so we headed into downtown Minneapolis to get some city shots {I LOVE city photos!}. After a couple of hours {and a bunch of photos later}, we headed to a gorgeous garden in the Uptown area. Not 10 minutes into the photos at that location, it started down pouring... while it put a bit of a damper on our engagement photo parade, the rainy photos turned out so cute with the cute couple under their umbrella!

Molly's vision for her wedding is Vintage Romance - think light pinks, creams, peaches, etc. These photos could not have matched her vision more perfectly, if I do say so myself! Her choice for attire is perfect for a vintage wedding, and we've got a few ideas up our sleeves to incorporate these AMAZING engagement photos into their big day... you'll have to stay tuned for that! :)

DIY: Diaper Motorcycle

Back in May I attended (and helped host) a baby shower for my boyfriends brother's girlfriend, Shawna. The shower was on the smaller side with about 10 guests, most of which were older women {grandma's, aunts, grandma-to-be's friends... plus a few cousins who are having kids of their own. And me.}. Because the shower was being hosted at my boyfriend's cousin's house, with most of the guests from out of town, we didn't do much decorating {gasp, I know!}. With that in mind, I wanted to make something super cute as a centerpiece and focal point for the party - so I found some directions here for a Diaper Motorcycle. I chose to make this as part of my gift for Shawna for two reasons - 1. The daddy-to-be is head over heels {literally} in love with BMX biking {and he's really good at it!} and 2. They were going with a monkey theme for their nursery {perfect for a BMX biker's kid, right?}.

This was actually quite easy to make... you just have to have patience! I will give a quick overview of what I used to make my diaper bike, but please head over to the web site I used for more detailed instructions and photos.

Materials:

- 2 cloth bibs {you don't want plastic or they won't form to the wheels like a hubcap}

- 3 receiving blankets {I used 2 blankets to connect the wheels and a burp rag for
the handle bars}

- 1 4-oz bottle

- 1 wash cloth

- 1 stuffed animal

- 1" ribbon {used to wrap wheels when complete}

- Linking rings {you can find these in the toy aisle of Target, Walmart or at Toys R Us
I'm sure}

- Diapers {this is where it gets tricky. The site told me to use 70, but they used size
2 diapers. I ended up using 36 because I was using size 1-2... it just scaled down
the size a bit, which worked with my stuffed animal, anyway}

- Additional toys/clothes that you want to add to it {the site said to use socks as
part of the handle bars, I actually bought some wrist rattles and used those
instead}
- Rubber bands

I was going to bring your through step-by-step instructions, but because I don't have a visual to show you for each step, and because I think the web site does a great job detailing what to do, I suggest you take a look there.

We haven't done a Featured Vendor post in quite some time, and I really loved the series so I wanted to bring it back. So, let's roll!

This weeks featured vendor is Courtney from Seamless Paperie. Courtney's work is just amazing - she has such a unique style for the invitation and stationery industry, with designs that include everything from contemporary to elegant.

Courtney of Seamless Paperie is definitely a busy-body when it comes to her businesses - Seamless Paperie and Seamless Creative. Always the artsy type, with an added interested in typography, Courtney began designing stationery and invitations for herself and friends, which then bloomed into a business when she started receiving design requests from strangers. Courtney first started her branding and design company, Seamless Creative, and followed it up with her stationery and invitation design company, Seamless Paperie. How did you come up with your business name?
My branding and design company, Seamless Creative, already existed. So in order to keep the companies consistent, it was a simple decision to go with Seamless Paperie. In terms of the original "Seamless" name, it all grew out of the idea that design is literally a part of everything I do and how I see the world.

What inspires you and your work?
Everything around me, from old signage to nature to popular culture.

What do you love most about your job?
Even though the general process is the same, every project has an entirely different outcome, so it's never boring.

What is one thing you wish every client knew/did that would make your job easier in assisting them?
That the design process is just that—a process. To get the best result it requires collaboration, patience and clear communication.

What is your ultimate goal/dream for your business or professional life?
To have my hand in lots of different things—blogging, more long-term branding and stationery projects, paper products for sale—and to be in a position to initiate personal art and design projects as well.

If you weren't a graphic designer/stationery and invitation designer, what would your dream job be?
Design is so intrinsic to who I am that I can't imagine doing anything that didn't have ties to art or design. I've always said that I'd love to be an interior designer in another life. At the moment, my current jobs and responsibilities prevent me from devoting as much time to that as I'd like to in my own home. But hopefully that will change in the near future!

What advice and/or tips would you give to people looking to start their own business adventure? What did you find helpful when starting out? What were the most difficult obstacles to overcome?
For me, it really grew out of a passion for what I do. You have to put so much energy into starting and running a business, that it's an absolute necessity to have a love for the work. Otherwise, you'll burn out before you even get off the ground.
My biggest challenge by far, is balance. Fitting in all of the duties involved in running a business with my personal life is definitely something I struggle with on a daily basis. I'm constantly trying to figure out what I can do to make any necessary tasks less time-consuming, so that I have more time for family, friends and relaxation. It's a work in progress, for sure.

What are five things you simply can't live without?
1. My husband, friends and family. (counting that as 1!)
2. The internet (it is essential to everything I do these days).
3. Apple (the company and all of their products).
4. A sketchbook (I use the Behance Dot Grid sketchbook).
5. Naps! (I take naps far more often than I probably should admit)

What is your favorite color scheme at the moment?
This is a tough one! I love color, so I have a new favorite every day. But I can never resist a palette of turquoise, royal, teal, lime and kelly green. I always gravitate toward that blue-green color family.

What is your favorite time of the year to design stationery and invites?
This isn't a time of year I've actually designed for already, but I would love to design for less common occasions - events like a family reunion, an anniversary party, or even an unusual holiday for invitations, like the 4th of July.

What trends are you seeing in the invitation/stationery industry lately?
Less formality, which in my opinion, is great. It's awesome to see so many couples embracing more colorful and modern designs and themes.

Bridal Party PARTY {brunch, luncheon, dinner}

Hi all - I'm terribly sorry we have been missing so much the past few months... I know I promised to be better about blogging and I've failed miserably at keeping up with that promise. This summer has just been super busy and my focus has been elsewhere - which is no good! I'm going to try really, really, really hard to get back up to blogging as much as I used to!

Anyway, happy Wedding Wednesday to you all! I know that typically we do a real wedding, engagement session or bridal shower, but this week I wanted to mix it up a bit. With that said, make sure to continue to check back for our Wedding Wednesday series because we've got some great real weddings coming up on the blog that you won't want to miss! But for today's post, we want to talk to all you brides out there about one party you can host for your girls who are standing up for you on your big day.

One thing a bride must never forget when planning her big day is her girls and the time they are taking out of their lives to stand up for her on her big day. Being a bridesmaid is usually a super fun experience, and honorable as your bride-to-be friend only chooses so many people to be by her side. With that said, it can also be very expensive {with traveling, gifts, hotel stays, attire, jewelry, etc.} and time consuming {if there are multiple showers to attend, the bachelorette party, rehearsal dinners, weekend events, etc.}.

So, what can a bride do to show her appreciation for her bridesmaids - well, how about hosting an event in THEIR honor? What kind of event you ask? I'm going to call it a bridal party PARTY {it's sometimes referred to a bridesmaid luncheon, but the event could be hosted any time of day}.

A bridal party PARTY is a way to get the bride and her bridesmaids together right before the wedding to thank them for everything they have done thus far in the planning process, and what they will be doing for on your wedding day. It's also a great way for those 'maids who don't know each other very well, or who are from out-of-town, to get to know each other for the big day.

I know what some of you might be thinking - with the cost of everything else I'm paying for my wedding, how can I afford to host another party for my girls? Well brides, this is definitely an extra cost you should be factoring into your budget early in the planning process. However, if you're close to the big day and don't have much of a budget to throw something extravagant, don't fret. Bridal luncheons don't have to be expensive... but they should show your appreciation to your bridal party. Below are some of our favorite ideas, for every budget.

- Bridesmaid Brunch: Prepare some easy brunch foods and have your ladies come over for a couple hours to mingle. Food items could include crepes, fresh fruit, mini cinnamon rolls, mini french toast, an egg bake, mimosas and lemonade. The brunch can be as laid back or extravagant as you like - making it an excellent choice for brides with any type of budget. You can make the food yourself {especially if you're a fabulous cook!} or have the event catered in.

While this spread is for a baby shower brunch, the color scheme and food choices are PERFECT for a bridesmaid brunch!

- Bridesmaid Luncheon or Dinner: Much like the brunch, a luncheon or dinner is a great choice for brides with any size budget. The luncheon or dinner can be hosted at the brides home {or brides parents or in-laws to be} or at a favorite restaurant. The nice thing about hosting a luncheon or dinner rather than a brunch is the wider selection of food to serve. Since you will have the event just days before you wedding, you can put together a menu for all of your girls to enjoy - mixing both healthy and not-so-healthy options. Some of my favorite menu ideas include mini grilled cheese with tomato soup shooters, mini burgers, chicken and veggie kabobs, Caesar salad {or any type of salad} and fresh fruit and veggies.

- Bridesmaid Spa/Salon gathering: This type of get-together might be for brides with a larger budget depending on how its held. One option could be to take the bridesmaid to a local spa/salon and pay for mani/pedis and a little luncheon following. Another option is to host a spa party at the brides home {or parents' home}. Provide different items needed for a mani/pedi party at home {lotions and oils, toe separators, polish, top coat, etc} - you can also provide a light lunch and some mimosas for your guests to enjoy.

Real Party: A Thing for Bling Bridal Shower

I always love a unique theme for parties, which is why I loved this "A Thing for Bling" bridal shower that I spotted over on Catch My Party designed by Natasha at Fete Fanatic. This theme would be perfect for any bride-to-be who loves anything and everything sparkly. The various props and desserts used for this party were perfect to match with the theme - I just loved the ring pops, pop rocks, fake diamond rings, etc. The color scheme was great, too - bright fuchsia pink, black and white.

I'll have S'more of those Dessert Bars, Please

Growing up, I always LOVED roasting some marshmallows over the fire and enjoy a nice, gooey chocolately, graham crackery S'MORE! Still, to this day, I love the taste of a nice s'mores treat, which is why I decided to make this delicious Peanut Butter S'mores Bar recipe from Betty Crocker for my family's BBQ this past weekend.

The recipe is SUPER easy and can easily be made as a last minute treat for your family's BBQ or picnic. There's only a handful ingredients, too.

INGREDIENTS:

- 1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) of Betty Crocker Peanut Butter Cookie mix
(water, oil and egg as called for on cookie mix directions)
- 1 container Betty Crocker Rich and Creamy chocolate frosting
- 2 cups miniature marshmallows
- 2 cups Golden Grahams cereal

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Make cookie mix as directed on pouch. Once dough forms, press into a 13x9-inch ungreased pan.
2. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
3. Scoop frosting into a microwavable bowl. Microwave from 15 to 20 seconds and stir until smooth. Reserve 1/4 cup. Spread remaining frosting over cookie mix. Sprinkle marshmallows and Golden Grahams over frosting.
4. Bake 3 to 5 minutes or until marshmallows are puffed. Let cool for 15 minutes. Drizzle remaining frosting over bars. Cool for another 30 minutes.

We hope everyone had a great weekend! I spent my time away from the computer, outdoors watching the boy play some ing a softball tourney. Real Party: Heels to Wheels Baby Shower

I just love a unique themed party, it's just so refreshing, so when I came across this baby shower on Catch My Party, I bookmarked it for future reference, and to share with you, my readers! I think I was so drawn to this party because I consider myself to be a city girl - I've always grown up near Minneapolis (though always living in a suburb), and I can't really ever see myself being able to move to the country (trust me, my parents live out in the boonies in Mississippi, and I know FOR SURE that's not the lifestyle for me... at least not at this point in time of my life). However, with that said, I'd like to think of myself as a little bit country (you know, because I like country music, cowboy boots, horseback riding, barbecues, etc.) Oh, and no worries, I'm not too offended if you real country folk are rolling your eyes at that last sentence! :)

Anyway, enough of my rambling and on to the reason for this post - the baby shower! The theme for the shower was "Black Heels to Tractor Wheels" because the mom to be was a city girl turned country girl. An extra cool concept the hostesses added for this party was asking their guests to dress according to what they felt they were - a city girl or a country girl. The decor included hay bales covered in quilts, cutouts of cowboy boots and black heels and a real pair of cowboy boots used as vases for some country-like flowers. The hostess separated the food up into "city food" and "country food", as well as "city drinks" and "country drinks" - such a fun way to continue the theme into the food and drinks!

Party Inspiration: Vintage WWII Inspired 4th of July Dessert Table

This past Monday we featured some 4th of July party inspiration, which included a red, white, cream and copper color scheme for an adult and {adorable} kids table. Well, because 4th of July is one of my absolute favorite holidays, I wanted to share with you some more party inspiration for your holiday gathering. Today's feature comes from the Celebrating the Moments blog and has a super creative theme for the dessert table - vintage WWII. The color scheme consisted of muted red and blue and tan. The decor included vintage suitcases, pinwheels, stripe straws, old photographs and an old typewriter. Desserts included cupcakes, sugar cookies, blueberry pie, and dessert shooters.

This has to be one of the most unique design concept for a 4th of July party. I love all the little details that were added to this to keep with the vintage WWII theme. Real Couple: 'The Notebook' Inspired Engagement Photos

Let me first say how much I love StumbleUpon because of all the great finds you come across when you're, well, stumbling. And that's exactly what I did to find tonight's Wedding Wednesday feature {I know, I know, it's a not real wedding - but it's a REAL couple and a REAL CUTE engagement photo session!} - I stumbled upon it on the Green Wedding Shoes blog while using StumbleUpon {was there enough "stumbles" in that sentence for you?!}.

Let me reiterate from the title of this post - this is a real couple, not a styled shoot. Simply. Stunning. Cindy, the bride, and Jean-Nicola, the groom, have a cute story as to why they choose 'The Notebook' as the inspiration behind their engagement photos. First, Jean-Nicola's late grandparents had Alzheimer's disease. Also, the intense chemistry of the couple in the movie really struck them {they also mentioned that they always fall asleep hand-in-hand... just like the end of the movie!}.

Doesn't the bride-to-be, Cindy, resemble Rachel McAdams?! Blushing Bride Studio and this couple did an amazing job with the locations and outfits to play off the scenes of the movie! Bravo!

Party Inspiration: Red, Blue, Cream and Copper

It's less than a month until the big summer holiday - Fourth of July - and if you're anything like me, you take the extra time to hang with family and friends and celebrate our country's independence, which means you have to make sure you celebrate in style - just like this styled photo shoot from The Sweetest Occasion. The designers of this photo shoot were inspired by the poem "Brown Penny" by William Butler Yeats, where it's contemplated whether the speaker is old enough for love, leading to the idea of a young love {a kids table} and old love {an adult table}.

While this photo shoot was originally designed for a wedding, I think borrowing some of these ideas for your own Fourth of July or Memorial Day parties would look great - and your guests would be super impressed! Real Party: Nursing School Graduation

Although graduation season is coming to a close, I've noticed that a lot of my friends who are in nursing school still have their boards coming up, so I thought I would share this awesome dessert table created for a Nursing student's graduation party. Marie of Sweets Indeed created the coolest table for a nursing graduate's party - including items such as blood, urine samples, band-aids, happy pills and a cake that included a stethoscope made out of fondant - the best part is that everything is edible!

Real Photos: A Little Bit City, A Little Bit Country Engagement Session

I hope everyone had a great weekend - mine was spent up near the north shore at a wedding for a friend's little brother {it's so weird to see her younger brother get married, I kind of felt old!}. The wedding ceremony and reception both took place in an old industrial building that includes both a restaurant and event area {obviously their wedding took place in the event area}.

So while we are on the topic of weddings, I have a coupe of meetings this upcoming week with my first "client" for a 2012 wedding {I put client in quotations because it's actually a friend of mine who's helping me with my branding and web site design, so we're exchanging services}. She lives in Kansas but will be having her wedding here in Minnesota next June. This Friday morning we'll be checking out and, hopefully, finalizing a ceremony location {we booked her reception location last month when she was in town}. I'll also be along in attendance for her engagement photos, which are being taken by a friend of hers... which brings me to today's post. She kind of mentioned what she was hoping her engagement photos would look like, which is urban, city photos with a touch of vintage. While searching the 'net I came across these awesome high fashion photos from a Chicago engagement photo session, photographed by Miller+Miller. I loved the bright colors of these photos, along with how different the locations were - the broken down car, the corn field, the field and streams, etc. I don't know the couple, but I imagine these locations kind of showcase their lifestyle and personalities.

That's what The Crafters File Box decided to do when she came across a highly priced lazy susan on Pottery Barn Kids - $49 to be exact (I can't link to the photo as the original post was back from 2009 - I don't think PBK carries the item any longer).

Invite Love: Sweet Suite {wedding}

I stumbled across this simply amazing invitation suite on the LemonLime Photography blog and bookmarked it as a must-share. The graphic work, I believe, was done by the groom, which I think is awesome! There were a bunch of unique elements with this invite suite that you don't normally see - one of the perks of having such an artistic hubby-to-be, I suppose! My favorite piece has to be the "timeline" of Tad and Jessica, starting with the distance between their houses growing up, and ending with their wedding date - too cool! I also loved the eco-chic reusable bags with their names and wedding theme printed on them - such a great favor for guests!

Life is too short, and the time we waste in yawning never can be regained

I need to start remembering {and focusing} more on this quote from Stendahl, as I feel like I'm letting my dream somewhat slip away with the days - and i just don't know where it's going!

First off, I hope everyone enjoyed the nice extended weekend for Memorial Day, and that you remembered the reason for the extra day off {thanks to our past and present military men and women for the sacrifices they make for our country and freedom - God bless you all!}. Mine was filled with working on the spring cleaning to-do list that at the time seemed to be a mile long {yet it's almost completely done!}. I was so thankful for two nice days to finally get some yard work done {all the rain and other obligations has wreaked havoc on our poor, sad lawn and landscaping!}.

This long weekend also gave me a chance to catch up on some blogs and do some more research for upcoming posts. It also gave me a chance to reflect on goals for the future Cammi Lee Events. Sorry we've been so MIA lately - May has been a busy month for us with non-business stuff (dang real world always has to get in the way of my fun!). I'm trying something new to keep me on track of my weekly blog posts, as well as on track for effectively starting this business up! We hope you do forgive us and continue to read! We'd love to hear from you as to what types of posts you would like to see in the future form us - is it more recipes, DIY ideas, wedding stuff, real parties - you tell us! Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter as we update those pages on a more consistent basis with ideas, parties and weddings we love!

With it being the end of May {seriously, where has 2011 gone already?}, I wanted to follow up on my resolutions and goals for the year and see where I have been succeeding, and where I need work. My goals and updates are as follow {for those who care to know! :) }

1. Build up to working out 3-times a week - this has been quite successful, to a point of almost annoyance. My boyfriend, a personal trainer, wrote me a month-long work out plan with a calendar to go with it. I've been so locked up in following that plan, I've kind of put my other stuff on hold - not good! Time to figure out how I can fit everything into the schedule appropriately!

2. Try new recipe weekly {either cooking or baking} - this has been a failure resolution. I think I need to start writing out my meals on a weekly basis, along with a weekly grocery list so that I can fulfill this resolution!

3. Read one book a month {business or leisure reading} - while I haven't finished a book a month, I'm pretty close. I can't say this one is a total failure because some of my reading material is easier {and shorter} to read than others.

4. Have the Cammi Lee Events business plan written up by June 30th - another total fail. This is probably one of the most important resolutions to follow, too, for getting the business off the ground. This may have to be extended to December 31st :)

5. Plan at least 4 events in 2011 - I guess you could say I'm on-track with this one - I've help with the planning of two events thus far - my niece's Baptism and my "sister-in-law's" baby shower. Now I just have to find two more people to let me plan their event in the next 6 months!

6. Create Web site for Cammi Lee Events - this one's coming along smoothly! My graphic and web designer is working away on getting my site up and going {Estimated launch date: July 1st - mark your calendars!}. She's a gem - she's also working on my branding design... baby steps in the right direction!

7. Blog at least 4 times a week - well you all know this one hasn't been met! Like I mentioned above - we're working on ways to get us more organized for posting... {fingers crossed I can keep up with it}

8. Eat healthier - this has been so-so. I was on a roll for a while, but then had some trips that kind of screwed it up. Must. Jump. Back. On. Wagon.

9. Find volunteer position in special events - this has been more difficult than I expected it to be! My full-time {non-events related} job has hours that aren't very conducive to volunteer positions. I will, however, ben helping with the planning of the MMRF Race for Research's 5K that takes place in September {not exactly what I was thinking, but it works!}

10. Find seminars, classes, events for event industry to attend - major fail. I'm not finding anything in the Twin Cities! {if anyone has heard of anything, please let me know!}

12. Complete ONE Scrapbook - I'd like to say that with all the time I've been away from the blog lately, it's been because I have been scrapbooking... but unfortunately, that's not the case. I will tell you that I took out my Cricut for the first time ever {it had been sitting in its box brand new for over a year} and it doesn't work. What's a girl to do, or scrap, without her Cricut? It's probably best to contact customer support - just hope they help me out since I've it for over a year!}

Well there you have it - my goals and resolutions and where they stand. As a recap for myself - I'm looking like a major slacker. I think I need more to-do lists, and less internet perusing {I think part of my issue is that I just love looking at what all of you do, do that I forget to follow my own stuff!}. Here's to hoping the next 6 months are more organized and fulfill my goals and resolutions than the first six months have!

Real Wedding: Spring into a Morning Wedding

I love when a couple does something different for their wedding than what's considered "traditional" - whether it be with the theme they choose, a different style of attire or a different type of location. This couples wedding was unique because they chose to have it in the morning, with an intimate "reception" that included an omelet bar (one of my favorite parts of the wedding). Jill Thomas Photography did a phenomenal job photographing this couples special day - I suppose to helps to have such an attractive couple to work with and that sweet glow of the morning sun.

I just adore these shoes!

Real Party: Garage Sale 30th Birthday

I love unique themed party, so when I came across this 30th birthday party dessert table on Catch My Party, I knew it was a must share! Stefani of La Belle Parties designed this Garage Sale-themed dessert table for her friends husband, who's a lover of garage sales {sounds like he and I have something in common!}. I think my favorite part is that you can use items from around your house as your props - as Stefani did with the blender, old coffee mugs and maker, and old vinyl records. Like Stefani said on her blog "the possibilities are endless because anything goes at a garage sale."

The whole spread - easy set up with things from around the house! If you're looking for a quick, but clever, dessert table set up, this is your kind of party!

Real Party: Eva's Baptism

Some of you may recall me chatting about helping my sister and brother-in-law with my niece's (no Goddaughter) Baptism. Well the day has come and gone, and let me tell you - it was mighty hectic! We started out with church at the 10:45 a.m. service followed by what was supposed to be a 2 hour break, but I have a family who likes to show up fashionably early! So while I was able to snap a few photos of the food and dessert table, I wasn't able to get much else {this seems to be a recurring theme for all the parties I help with!}. I hope you enjoy these few images from my nieces big day! {I apologize in advance for the dark photos, the way my sisters dining room is set up only allowed for the table to be in front of a window and sliding glass door... that makes for poor lighting!}

We didn't have anywhere to hang these, but I spelled out my nieces name and put them in cute square white frames from the Dollar Store. These will be hanged in her room at some point.

I hope you enjoyed a little bit of an inside look at the party. There wasn't much room to put too many decorations {as we had 40-some people show up}, but I did what I could with the room I had. Like I mentioned above, the punch was a huge hit, as were the Oreo truffles. I just loved the wish trees, although I wish I would have placed them in a different location because it was just too busy in the kitchen for people to actually stop to write something. I wanted to stop and decorate with some flowers (I had some vases on had with ribbon that matched the lavender and silver theme), but we just simply ran out of time the night before and during the time we had between the service and the luncheon.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Real Wedding: Ivory and Lavender Love

Lately I have been totally in love with the color purple, so when I saw this gorgeous ivory and lavender wedding on the Wedding Chicks blog, I just had to bookmark it to share for Wedding Wednesday (oh you should see the bookmarks I have for upcoming Wedding Wednesday's - it's amazing!). If you've already seen this, I apologize, but it's just gorgeous eye candy that I'm sure you don't mind seeing it again... and if you haven't seen it yet, well you're in for a real treat!

How gorgeous is that aisle? It seriously belongs in a magazine (to be honest, I think I may have seen it in a magazine). I just love all the flowers and stationery. It's just so beautiful.

I could just look at photos of this wedding all day... and then the next day and the next. What I think I love most is that the couple planned this elegant wedding, while still keeping it playful with the "Field of Dreams" theme. This is such great wedding inspiration for a couple who want a fun, yet elegant wedding (think sports fanatic groom and traditional bride).

A Birthday Party for Your Guy

It's not often that you see a lot of party ideas for guys around the blog world, so I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this great 30th Birthday Party dessert table on the RubyJu blog. Tammi and Bec, the talented ladies of RubyJu, used a color scheme of chocolate brown, orange, blue and cream for a more masculine touch. The copper-topped jars kept with masculine theme, along with lots of chocolate - there was nothing feminine and frilly about this dessert table!

Some of you may have noticed we've changed our look a bit... don't get too used to it, as we're still working on all of our branding and we're just in the "in between" phase. I'm terribly sorry for the branding confusion - and I know it can't be good for my business, but as some of you may now know (from my previous post earlier this week), I was forced quickly to change my branding due to my lack of trademark research (note to future entrepreneurs, if you're looking to open your own business any time soon, be sure to do ALL of your homework - including a trademark search!).

So here is what you are going to be seeing in the near future {hopefully}:

Wedding Wednesday: Song Selection Assistance

I've never had to plan a wedding of my own {hopefully that day will come soon}, so I can't exactly say that I've had trouble with picking out the music for my big day {the boy says he'll be choosing the music selection if/when our big day comes, we'll see how that works out!}. I will admit, though, I'm a huge fan of music at any party - and the music selection for a wedding definitely requires more thought than say a 32nd birthday get together.

Although music is an important piece of your wedding to think of when it comes to your guests enjoyment, there's more to it than just making sure you choose the right DJ or band to rock your venue late into the night. There are many musical choices needed for a traditional wedding. First we'll start with your ceremony - you'll have to choose your prelude, processional, recessional and postlude. Then there is the music for your reception - your introduction, first dance, father & daughter dance, mother & son dance, cake cutter, bouquet toss, garter toss and the last dance. Whew - did you know there would be so many??

Real Wedding: Cairnwood Mansion Escape

It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted a real wedding for the Wedding Wednesday series... I apologize! If you read my last post, you know there has been a lot going on with the blog, and the business, so I've had my energies focused elsewhere... but it's my goal to get back to posting regularly - and that means more than just a weekly Wedding Wednesday post!

Today's feature comes from the fabulous photographers Justin and Mary of Justin & Mary Photography. Tiffany and Dan's wedding took place at the gorgeous Cairnwood Mansion in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. The couple were married on a bright and sunny July day, surrounded by the love of their family and friends.

The couple set a river rock with different words that were important to their marriage inscribed on them. At the end of the night, they had their guests hold the rocks while saying a prayer. The couple then collected all the rocks and will place them in their new home. Such a unique and creative idea to remember your wedding beyond the photographs!

Business Confusion

There's nothing worse than putting all of your thoughts, ideas and hard work into a business name only to find out that name is already taken. My bad business news of the week came last Monday evening when I opened an email to find that the business name "CK Events" has been trademarked by a company in Indiana. While there is no one to blame but myself, it's such a frustrating discovery because my blog and Facebook page come up as 2 of the top 3 results in a Goggle search. UGH. I should mention - I did research the business name on the Minnesota Registered Business name site... AND I searched the internet for the company name - nothing popped up on either. So I thought I was smooth sailing {I guess I should have done more homework}.

So... I'm starting to get myself focused on some rebranding. I'm just thankful this whole trademark thing popped up now before I announced the premier of my web site and revamp of the CK Events logo. So for now, I apologize for the lack of posts - it might be a slow process of getting back into the swing of things. I've been trying to get everything switched so that I'm not longer infringing a trademark. Bear with me... we'll have the new web site and branding up soon... so give us your thoughts and please stick around with us during the transition! We'll announce a NEW business name and web site soon... I hope you'll join us in the new journey! :)

Wedding Wednesday: Tips for the Bridal Party

So your friend just asked you to be a part of her big and special day, one of the most important days of her life... her wedding. Now what?

The job of a bridesmaid doesn't just consist of throwing and attending her bridal showers and bachelorette party, standing around for lots of photos and partying the night away at the wedding, it means you're there for whatever the bride needs. Weddings are a lot of work, and a lot of stress, and as a bridesmaid you're committing to help the bride stay as calm and stress free as possible, which includes before the big day, and during!

Read on for some tips from Erin of The Not Wedding, as featured on Every Last Detail.

The Week of:

- Assist with any loose ends, whether it's finishing the welcome bags, favors or decorating the reception hall. Be helpful and do it all with a smile!

- At the Rehearsal Dinner, make sure the bride is able to mix and mingle with all of her guests, but make sure she isn't drinking too much and that she gets into bed at a reasonable hour!

- The night before the wedding, make sure she's relaxed and calm enough to get some sleep - try playing some cards, watching a movie, or enjoying an activity that's a stress reliever for her!

The Day of:

- Just as you did the night before, make sure the bride is calm and relaxed. If there's any issues that arise during the day, be there to help out.

- Make sure she has her overnight bags packed, make-up case ready for touch-ups and a change of shoes for later in the evening.

- Prior to the party getting started at the reception, help the bride bustle her dress.

- Help the bride and groom out by getting their drinks for them - they will have a ton of people to greet and thank, so any trips to the bar you can eliminate will be totally helpful!

- If you have time, take photos throughout the day and night... even though they'll have photos from their photographer, it's always nice to see some "behind the scenes" photos of their guests enjoying their time.

- As the reception wraps up and the couple are heading to their hotel room (or wherever their post-wedding reception may be), stick around to help the family tear down the reception venue, pack up cars, make sure wedding accessories and gifts make it to where they need to be.

After the Wedding:

- If the bride and groom are hosting a gift opening brunch/lunch, be sure to attend and help with any final obligations (be the person to write down which gifts were from which guest, help them carry their gifts to the car, see them off to their honeymoon).

- If able, offer them a ride to the airport for their honeymoon, or offer to pick them up from the airport.

I thought I would do something a little different for today's edition of Wedding Wednesday and feature another aspect of the wedding process - the bridal shower! Bridal showers are such a great way for the bride-to-be's closest friends and relatives to be able to spend time with the bride prior to her big day! It's also a great way for the bride to be able to relieve some of the stresses from the planning of her big day, as this day she can sit back and enjoy the day that's being held just for her.

Today's feature comes from the super awesome wedding site Green Wedding Shoes. The shower was thrown for Leila of Be Inspired PR by some of her bridesmaids, and it turned out gorgeous!

I'm loving all the little details that were thought of for this party. The scent bar is so unique, definitely not a favor you see around most parties! The dainty and girly dessert buffet went absolutely perfect to correlate with the rest of the event, as did the simplistic flowers and minimal decor - very chic.

Real Party: Pink Baby Shower

Sorry I have been so MIA lately, I've been working pretty hard on trying to get my content for the release of the web site written for my web designer. I've also been working diligently on getting the printables for my nieces Baptism prepared in addition to assisting with the planning of my "sister in laws" (she's not really my sister in law, but the girlfriend of my boyfriends brother, it's just easier to call her a SIL) baby shower that's coming up in May! We recently found out that they're having a boy - how exciting!!

When planning events I love to get inspiration from other parties... and while I'm planning a BOY's baby shower, I had to share this adorable GIRL baby shower... because it's just too cute not to! Today's real baby shower comes from Michelle of the Crazy for Design blog and it's just beautiful! The color scheme - light pink, white and silver - matched perfectly for the winter-themed shower. The dessert table set up and the adorable printables really made this party!

How gorgeous is this set up?! I'm loving this color palette!

The favor tree... what were the favors you ask?! White chocolate on a stick!... mmmm!

The dessert table was made up of white chocolate/strawberry mousse, lemon sandwich cookies, handmade marshmallows, cheesecake pops, chocolate covered pretzels, brownie pops and cream puffs - all homemade by Michelle.... um, YUM! In addition to these handmade items, there were donut holes, caramel popcorn, chocolate kisses and strawberry malt balls. Michelle's sister-in-law also brought over her own homemade cupcakes and chocolate covered pretzels. Talk about DEE-LISH-OUS desserts!

Real Wedding: Pink Romance

I love the color pink, but I must admit that sometimes pink lovers can go overboard on accessorizing an event with too much of it. However, that's not the case for this gorgeous, romantic pink-themed wedding that was photographed by RAW Photo Design... and let me tell you - they did an AMAZING job photographing this wedding!

This ceremony and reception venues for this wedding a insanely gorgeous. I'm loving the fact that although both venues were very traditional in design and decor, they broke the traditional mold for their photos, walking around Stamford, CT getting some modern, more urban-like shots - it definitely mixes the mood up a bit!

Real Party: Pink Party for a Cure

I love a good party... anyone whose read my blog would know that. But I love parties even more when they're for a good cause, like today's feature. I came across this party on Catch My Party and knew I had to share it. Catch My Party is one of my must-read party sites for inspiration because so may talented and creative ladies post their parties there!

As some followers may know, my grandma was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma last winter and it's my dream to be able to host an awesome fundraising party like this in her honor in the future (I actually wanted to do it this year, but life just got in the way - I hate when that happens!). I adore fundraising events like these because it allows the opportunity for those people (including those who are diagnosed with the disease or illness) who aren't able to participate in another event other than a run/walk that many organizations tend to put on to support a disease . Plus - who doesn't love a good get together with great friends, great food and desserts and of course drinks and socializing!?

So - on to the details of this party. The hostesses, Jennifer and her friend Jenn, threw together this Pink Party as a way to raise funds to support their team in the breast cancer 3-day walk. They had items from local businesses donated for raffle baskets as well as a silent auction. Each guest was asked to donate money as part of their entry to the party - it was $10 per adult and $5 per child, which included 2 raffle tickets for adults and 1 for each child... additional raffle tickets were available for purchase at $5 a piece or 5 tickets for $20. Their guest list for this party was approximately 30 people and they were able to raise more than $10,000 to support their team (although, I'm not sure that was all for this fundraiser).

Creative Cookie Decorating

If you are running short on time and need to throw together a quick dessert that's still a bit personal to a specific theme, then this sugar cookie decorating tip is a must read for you! One Sweet Party posted this idea back in December as a way to decorate cookies for the holidays, but it would work great for ANY event you're planning... and that's why I loved it so much and just had to share!

What you'll need:

- Prepared sugar cookies (made from scratch or from cookie tubes)
- Rubber stamp that coordinates with the theme you're preparing the cookies for {example: cross for a Baptism, birthday present for a birthday party, "it's a boy/girl" for a baby shower, fun font for monogram, etc.}
- Food coloring in color(s) of choice {either in gel form or liquid}

Directions from One Sweet Party:

- Bake sugar cookies according to recipe/package

- Allow cookies to cool completely {at least 20-30 minutes}

- Wash stamp with soap and water - allow to dry completely.

- Add food coloring to stamp

If you are using gel, apply right to stamp, as shown below. If you are using liquid food coloring, apply coloring to a piece of felt and simply ink stamp on felt {such a creative idea!}

- Stamp cookie, making sure to apply pressure evenly

- Allow cookies to dry

This idea is perfect for an easy and inexpensive personalized favor for any event, just wrap in a clear cellophane bag, add a cute tag and ribbon and voila - you've got an adorable favor to hand out to your party guests! Be sure to check out One Sweet Party's site for more fun ideas!

A Dessert Table Fit for a Princess

I came across this adorable dessert table on Catch My Party and instantly fell in love with all the goodies and party stationery. The theme was a Princess Party that was planned around a pink and purple color scheme. The treats that were served were presented beautifully and looked absolutely delicious!

Real Wedding: Baseballs, Rings and Fireworks

I just love when I come across a photographer whose work just stops me in my tracks and makes me go "wow". I also love when I come across an event or wedding that makes me do that, and you can tell that it's not all due to how well the photographer does his/her job.

That's how I reacted when I came across today's wedding on the Sergio Photographer "Blogito". The couple planned their big day on New Year's Eve, and as Sergio describes it, it was an "extravaganza" that lasted into the morning - now that's my kind of wedding... and quite the way to ring in the new year!

Party Ideas: Signature drink ideas by color

I absolutely love the idea of featuring a signature at any event you throw - whether it's a wedding, corporate party, birthday party, anniversary, baptism, bridal shower or just a random get-together. Signature drinks don't need to include alcohol, it all depends upon what type of event you're having. For instance, some may find it inappropriate to serve an alcoholic signature drink during a Baptism reception, while others might find it perfectly acceptable.

The best part of a signature drink is that you can customize the name anytime you want because most people won't know what it is anyway. If you're looking to have your own "couture" drink for your event, get together with a bartender who's well versed in what ingredients mix well together for the yummiest concoction. Below you will find a list of drinks by color that have been tried and tested as de-lish!

Purple: Purple Flirt

Ingredients:
1 1/2 shots vodka
3/4 shot sambuca
2 shots cranberry juice

SHAKE all ingredients with ice and fine strain into a chilled martini glass

Pink: UV Pink Flamingo

Ingredients:
2 parts UV Lemonade vodka
1 part cranberry juice
Splash of triple sec

SHAKE with ice and strain into a martini glass

Blue: Blue Raspberry Martini

Ingredients:
2 ounces vodka
2 ounces raspberry liquor
twist of Curacao

SHAKE with ice and strain into martini glass

Red: Strawberry Sucker

Ingredients:
1 ounce vodka
2 ounces strawberry schnapps
club soda
1 strawberry, halved

FILL a tall highball glass with ice cubes. Add vodka and schnapps and top with club soda. Garnish with strawberry.

Green: Apple Green Martini

Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces of vodka
1 ounce green apple schnapps

SHAKE with ice and strain into a martini glass

Yellow: Yellow Cab

Ingredients:
2 1/2 ounces vanilla cognac
4 ounces fresh pineapple puree
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
Splash of coconut milk

SHAKE with ice and strain into chilled martini glass

Orange: Orange Push Up

Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces Captain Morgan original spiced rum
1/2 ounce grenadine
4 ounces orange juice
1 splash sweet and sour mix

BLEND ingredients with 1/2 scoop of ice and serve in a hurricane glass.

Real Party: Rustic Baptism

I'm still poking around the 'net to try and find some more inspiration for my niece's {and soon to be Goddaughter} Baptism that's taking place in April. Let me tell you - there is not a lot out there for photos of Real Baptisms... whon, whon! But - thanks to that lovely little party site, Catch My Party, I was able to find some cute Baptism inspiration there {although, not much for a baby girl, which I found quite surprising}.

Today's real party comes from Meghan McCann of MegMac Designs. She designed and planned her nephew's {and Godson) baptism with a very adorable rustic theme. The Baptism was held in the fall, so all of the yummy homemade treats and food fit the season. The menu included a DIY chili bar with homemade mini biscuit bowls, pumpkin-flavored whoopie pies, s'mores pops, spice cake balls, a harvest salad and much, much more. Wedding Wednesday: How to Incorporate Sports into your Wedding (without over doing it)

If you've been a follower of my blog for a while, you more than likely know that I'm a lover of baseball and football. If you are, too, you're totally feeling my pain of having no sports to watch currently... or you're enjoying having you life back for a couple of months. I think I'm a mixture of both at the moment. As a couple, my boyfriend and I attend many Minnesota Twins games and watch our fair share of football - the Chicago Bears for him and the Minnesota Vikings for me... and then any other football teams playing on Sunday afternoon, night or Monday night. Yes, we're quite obsessed.

Anyway, I write this post because I came across a great article on The Knot titled "10 Subtly Sporty Wedding Ideas" and I think I've touched on all of them with my future dream wedding!

1. The Color Palette - If you're both hardcore fans for one team, use their colors {baby blue and yellow for the San Diego Chargers or Milwaukee Brewers, navy and silver for the Cowboys, yellow and purple for the LA Lakers}. If you're fans of opposite teams, see if choosing one color from each teams color scheme would work well together - for example, you could use the navy blue from the Chicago Bears color scheme and the yellow from the Minnesota Vikings to create a gorgeous color palette of navy and yellow
2. Hidden Accessories - cuff links, socks, garter
3. The Favors - what comes to mind when you attend a sporting event? or the sport that you're incorporating into your theme? The food? The equipment? Use these ideas for your favors! {example: a box of cracker jacks with a cute custom tag would work well for a baseball themed wedding}
4. The Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties - I love the idea of custom baseball shirts for your bachelorette party; custom jerseys for all the guys at the bachelor parties; attending a game
5. The Rehearsal Dinner - Rehearsal dinners don't have to be stuffy and boring! Have fun at a sports bar, outdoor park playing lawn games, at a bowling alley, etc.
6. The Invitations or Save the Dates - think sports tickets... or incorporating the sports theme into your invitations subtly
7. The Groom's Cake - How fun would it be to have an over-the-top grooms cake for your hubby-to-be?
8. The Guestbook - have guests sign a football, baseball or bat, soccer ball, bowling pins, jersey - the ideas are endless!
9. The Wedding Party Photos - head to a venue or park that allow you and your wedding party to take photos that look like you're playing the game {or better yet - actually do it! Play a game of touch football, toss around a baseball, kick around a soccer ball} Your photos will turn out so fun!
10. The Centerpieces - Incorporate the sport into your centerpieces - use baseballs or golf balls in the vases, trophies instead of a traditional vase, bowling pins as vases, etc.

No Bake Oreo Cookies and Cream dessert

As some of you may have read in my last post, I'm in the beginning stages of planning my niece's Baptism, which will be on April 17th. The Baptism will be at a church with a luncheon/reception following at my sister and brother-in-law's house. I will be her GODMOTHER {such a huge honor} and since I'm the one in the family who LOVES planning parties, I volunteered to plan the luncheon.

While I'm thinking the color scheme is going to be different shades of purple with white and silver mixed in {since it's a week before Easter, finding items in purple shouldn't be too hard - at least I hope}. I'm also thinking a dessert table would be a great spruce up to the party. In my research for easy and quick desserts, I came across these delicious looking no bake Oreo cookies and cream cheesecakes on Bakers Royale. Read on below for the directions on how to make these yummy treats!

*This recipe makes 16 mini 2-inch cheesecakes or one 8-inch cheesecake*

What you will need:

Crust
- 1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 7 tablespoons unsalted butter {melted}

1. Combine graham cracker crumbs with sugar.
2. Add melted butter and blend until combined.
3. Press into pan and set aside.

Cheesecake
- 2 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1 pound cream cheese, softened
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons vanilla powder
- 3/4 cup Oreo cookies, crushed

1. Beat heavy cream until medium peaks form. Set aside.
2. Add cream cheese, sugar, salt, vanilla powder and lemon juice to a bowl and beat with a paddle attachment until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). If you do not have a stand mixer or a paddle attachment, a hand beater will work as well, but will take longer to achieve a smooth consistency.
3. Add cream cheese mixture to heavy cream and be until incorporated.
4. Gently fold in Oreo cookies.
5. Fill chosen pan with a slight mound at the center as the cheesecake will be slightly sunken at the center.
6. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours to set, or overnight for best results.
7. Remove from refrigerator and smooth top to level with edges. Serve with whipping cream and garnish with a mini Oreo.

Additional notes:
- Although these were made as mini cheesecakes, you can also make one large cheesecake in a 9-inch baking cheesecake pan or springform.
- If you don't have vanilla powder, you can omit it. Vanilla extract can tint your cheesecake with a brownish color, so it's not recommended. If you choose to use it - about 1 1/2 teaspoons is recommended.
- Keep refrigerated until 20 minutes before serving.
- Chilling overnight will yield the best results.

Real Party: Baby B's Baptism

Many of you know my niece was born on New Year's Day - yep, she's a New Year's baby and I couldn't be any more smitten with her {I just think of how much fun she'll have celebrating her birthdays when she's older... everyone will definitely want to party with her on her big day!}. Anyway, my sister and brother-in-law just set the date of her Baptism as April 17th - and guess who the Godmother is. THIS GIRL! The pressure right? Nah, just joking - I'm in baby heaven just thinking about being that little cuties Godmother! But there is tons of pressure to make sure she has one bangin' Baptism that she can look back on and show all her friends when she's older! :) (OK - so the pressure is just from myself... I don't think anyone else really cares if she has a bangin' Baptism like I do!)

With all that said, I've been on the search for some Baptism inspiration, because I have no recollection of ever attending a Baptism reception/lunch. I mean, I attended my own, but let's be real here, I was like a month old - I don't remember if the cake looked good or the color scheme meshed well - which I'm willing to make a bet it didn't! :) And this is my first niece - we've never had to throw a post-Baptism get together. (and let me say - I know this day is supposed to be about a child entering into God's kingdom and what not, but let's let my niece do it up in style! I must promise myself (and probably my mom and sister that the message of the day doesn't get lost in the party planning. I may only need a couple reminders of that though!)

OK - back to the point of looking for Baptism inspiration - um... there's just not that much out there that screams "Hey! I wanted this Baptism to be bangin'!" But I did come across a couple that I wanted to share. That's where today's party comes from - Jackie Fo's adorable pink Baptism for her niece (hey, we've got something in common here!). The little details of this party were perfect and not too over-the-top - just how a Baptism celebration should be! Jackie used lots of pink and lots of accents with the letter B (for her niece's name, Brooke). We hope you enjoy it as much as we have - and that it inspires you for your next Baptism celebration!

Fun and Easy DIY Project - Cupcake Flower Toppers

I love anything that is fun and easy and comes out looking fab... Usually you can't use all of the words together - but I promise, with this project featured on the Icing Designs blog, you can!

I love the idea of using cupcake liners to create a cute little flower. Icing Designs uses these as an alternative for cupcake toppers in their post, but I think they could be used for so much more than that! These would be perfect for little flowers at a each place setting with a cute little name card, or cute little flowers on a simple dessert table (in lieu of real flowers... or in addition to), or even for a mini garland to display around your party space (anyone else envisioning these to create a mini garland for the guest of honors chair??). Seriously, there are so many fun little ideas for these - I think of them as mini versions of the tissue paper poms/flowers... everyone needs a little mini in their life sometimes, right??

Real Wedding: 40's Love

I totally have Valentine's Day on the brain. You may have noticed with the post on Monday for the Vintage Valentine's Dessert Table, and then the post earlier with the recipe of the yummy, oh so delicious, white chocolate covered popcorn with m&m's. Well today's edition of Wedding Wednesday is no different. While the couple didn't get married on Valentine's day, the vintage-y, deep red color palette totally exudes romance - which isn't that what Valentine's is kind of about??

The post is from the ridiculously talented wedding ladies at Style Me Pretty - you ladies never cease to amaze me! I'm definitely loving the deep red, black and white color pattern - and the bride, well as you will see, she just STUNNING!

The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all took place at the St. Regis Resort and Spa in Orange County, California. The photography was done by Victor Sizemore Photography. Their wedding coordinator was Jeannie from Detail Details. The exquisite flowers were done by Fiori Fresco Special Events.

Easy Peasy Valentine's Treat-sey

While working on my post for today's edition of Wedding Wednesday, I kind of got the munchies... and then I remembered this yummy and easy Valentine's day recipe I found last year before Valentine's Day!

I came across this simple little Valentine's treat on Make and Takes and never got around to sharing it (at least, I don't think I did!). You see, I'm a lover of popcorn, and with chocolate added, well let's just say this recipe sang to me. {Really, it did.}

So are you intrigued yet? Are you licking your lips with excitement and anxiousness?? I am.

OK - I'll give you the low down... and a peak at the finished product!

What you'll need to make this treat:

- 8 cups popped popcorn (microwave or air-popped)
- 1 cup melted white candies (or any color - make it festive and use pink and red for Valentine's Day!)
- 1 cup m&m candies
- large mixing bowl
- spoons for mixin'

Directions:

1. Prepare popcorn and pour into the large bowl.
2. Melt white candies and pour over the top of the popcorn

3. While chocolate is still hot/warm, throw m&m's in bowl and mix until they're even distributed throughout mix.

4. Let sit at room temperature for a few hours, or throw in the fridge for about 20 minutes, until the chocolate is hardened.
5. Enjoy .... OR .... put some in cute Valentine's themed cellophane bags with a cute ribbon and send it off with your Valentine(s)!

See - I told it was easy peasy! I'll definitely be trying this out for Valentine's Day treats!

Sweet Love: Vintage Valentine's Dessert Table

What do you think of you when you think about Valentine's? Is it love? Is it candy and sweets? Is it dreadful (I've had a Valentine's Day like that a time or two...). Is it the colors red and pink? I think there are a lot of things that are tied in with Valentine's day - but mostly it's the holiday of LOVE and sweetness.

Today's sweet table comes from Marci of Celebrating The Moments. Her "Vintage Valentine's" dessert spread looks way too yummy to eat! And the little girls modeling for the shoot - um., way too adorable!! The desserts chosen were a perfect fit for Valentines - conversation hearts, truffles, cupcakes, cookies, custom Hershey Kisses, Jones soda and more! I love the backdrop and the bunting she used to spruce up the dessert buffet.

Wedding Wednesday: Sports Fun

With the Super Bowl being just a week away, I thought it was appropriate to feature a wedding that had some AMAZING football photos! {I must get this off my chest: as a Minnesota Vikings fan, I am SUPER bummed that Green Bay has made it to the Super Bowl! Why couldn't the Bears just take 'em out the first time... or even this past week! UGH!}

Anywho.. today's Wedding Wednesday feature was photographed by Corey Ann of Corey Ann Photography, and the photos are just way too fun for words! Do you ever see a wedding and think "this is definitely a wedding party that I would TOTALLY love to be a part of"? Because I totally did. And the couple getting married totally rocked it!
